Margaret Joycee Blodgett, 66, passed away in her Corvallis home on March 21, 2018. The daughter of Colonel James A. and Peggy Blodgett, now deceased, is survived by her longtime companion Craig Hamnquist; brother Ron (Yogi) Blodgett, his wife Gail, and her nephews Eric and Kelly Blodgett.

You might have known Joycee by voice and character, but not by name. After graduating from Corvallis High School, she worked at the Toa Yuen. She was known for her head of curly hair, lilting voice and very real desire to make people happy. When the iconic Toa Yuan closed, Joycee moved into managerial positions with the Payless ShoeSource chain. She worked their stores in Newport, Albany, Lebanon and finally Corvallis.

Later, she took a position as lead of the team of people who hand out free food samples at Winco Foods. Again, you would have known her by her head of curly hair, now white; the lilting voice, still strong; and her people pleasing skills, still in full evidence.

Still not sure if you knew her? Have you ever donated blood to the Red Cross? Joycee donated most of her life. She frequently worked blood drives at the front desk. She also worked as a courier.

Need another mind jog? Joyce was devoted to local community theater. Her parents were active in the Valley Round Barn Theater and Joyce spent a great deal of her free time there. In later years, she worked at the Albany Civic Theater. Much in demand for her distinctive voice, she took roles in a wide variety of plays, including "South Pacific," "Bus Stop," "The Dresser," "Sherlock's Last Case," "Cemetery Club," "Pirates of the Chemotherapy" and her last appearance onstage in "It's a Wonderful Life." And while her performances were memorable, she will be forever remembered by countless casts and crews as the "Cookie Lady" who brought unique homemade cookies to Thursday night performances. Remember the hamburger cookies?

A celebration of Joycee's life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the American Red Cross or Albany Civic Theater.

I do remember Joyce! It was a pleasant surprise, when I moved back to Corvallis, to see her here and there around town. Yes, she indeed always had a beautiful smile for everyone around. I would have loved to see her perform in any one of the productions she was involved in, definetly my loss!

I remember Joyce, too, though not very well.  She was fairly quiet.  I really appreciated the writing in this obituary notice - someone did a great job!  They brought out parts of Joyce's life I never would have known about.  I was glad to read it, though sorry to hear she was no longer with us.

What I remember about Joyce is her smile and gentleness. Wonderful to learn about all her acting and giving to others.
